Question
The sum of three consecutive integers is 53 more than the least of the
integers find the integers

Answer
Hi David,
Let the three consecutive numbers be x, x+1 and x+2.
We could simply just say that 53 is the sum of the two bigger numbers i.e
(x+1) + (x+2) = 53
2x + 3 = 53
2x = 50
x = 25

Alternatively, if we wanted to work slowly. The sum of the three numbers,
x + (x+1) + (x+2) = x + 53
and we still arrive at
(x+1) + (x+2) = 53
just like before.

The integers are therefore 25, 26 and 27
