Question
An Automobile Company required to analyze expense claims.Hence,it studied the major cities that its employees travelled to the most:Edmonton,Calgary,and Vancouver.The employees either travelled by plane or private car and accounted for either their meals or the cost of transportation within each city.Draw a tree diagram to represent the different combinations within this study.

What I have been making for you are tree diagrams, so start a branch with major cities and make branches for Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver. From each city draw 2 branches and label them car or plane. Then from each car or plane draw two more branches and label them alternately meals and transportation, meals and transportation, until all are labeled. You will see that there are 12 ways total to choose the various scenarios. Think about it, you start with 3 destinations so that is 3C1 = 3 and then there are two choices for each destination so that is 2C1 = 2, and finally for each of those choices transportation methods there are 2C1 = 2 ways to account for your meals or transportation, so another 2C1 = 2 and since this is the multiplication principal you have 3C1*2C1*2C1 = 3*2*2 = 12 ways to select from.
