Question

Problem
Hello sir, I've had a problem that has completely baffled my mind over the past few days, and I would like to have that problem answered.  I have attached the question in an image below, and I would like you to answer it, thank you in advance!

Answer
Charles, have you made an error in your image? You have x^2 x 10, did you mean x^2 + 10??

Math Prof

If I assume you meant x^2 + 10 and the other adjacent angle is x + 8 and you know that
x^2 + 10 + x + 8 = 90, then you have x^2 + x - 72 = 0 which factors as (x + 9)(x - 8) = 0
which means either x + 9 = 0 or x - 8 = 0 and then x = -9 or x = 8. Scratch x = -9 since we don't use negative angle measurement (x + 8 with x = -9 makes x + 8 = -9 + 8 = -1). The only possibility is that x = 8.
