Question
the area of a trapezoid is A=(a+b)hdivided by 2 ifA=300,h=5andb=30 what is the value of a

Answer
Oscar~

All you have to do is out in the numbers for each of the letters. Just put in A = 300 for the A in the formula and 5 for the h and 30 for the b and then solve for a:

300 =(a+30)5/2 ->
2*300 = [(a+30)5*2]/2 -> since you are dividing by 2 you need to
                        multiply both sides by 2
600 = (a+30)5 ---------> simplify
600/5 = (a+30)5/5 -----> divide both sides by 5
120 = a+30 ------------> simplify
120-30 = a + 30 - 30 --> subtract 30 from both sides
90 = a ----------------> simplify
