Question
1.) Suppose an old peso bill is 20 cm long and 12 cm wide. It is mounted on a piece of cardboard whose area is 2 3/4 times the area of the peso bill. What should the dimensions of the cardboard be to ensure a uniform border around the bill?

2.) The revenue R (in pesos) earned by a company on the manufacture of s liters of an acid solution is :
R = s2 - 95 s - 500

a.) Compute its profit / loss if it manufactured

> 50 liters of acid solution?

> 90 liters?

> 200 liters?

b.) How many liters of the acid solution should it manufacture to break even ?

c.) If its revenue was Php 60,600, how many liters did it manufacture ?

Answer
Hazel~

The area of the peso bill is 20(12) = 240 square cm

you want a cardboard 2 3/4 in area larger than the peso so 2 3/4 = 11/4 and (11/4)(240) = 660 square cm so you want the dimensions of the card board to be (x+20)(x+12) = 660

Solve for x and you find that x = 10 so the dimensions of the card board that will make a uniform boarder are 10 + 20 = 30 and 10 + 12 = 22 or 30cm x 22cm
