A rectangular picture is placed in a frame 2 inches wide.

Frame area- 152 square inches.

Length of frame is twice the width.

Calculate dimensions of picture.


"A rectangular picture is placed in a frame 2 inches thick."
L and W are the length and width of the frame, respectively.
area of picture and frame = LW inē

dimensions of picture: (L-4) inches by (W-4) inches
area of picture = (L-4)(W-4) = LW - 4W - 4L + 16 inē

"Frame area- 152 square inches."
LW - (LW - 4W - 4L + 16) = 152
4W + 4L = 168
W + L = 42

"Length of frame is twice the width."
L = 2W

W + (2W) = 42
W = 14
L = 2W = 28

The frame is 14 inches wide and 28 inches long.
The picture is 10 inches wide and 24 inches long.
