The value of Acceleration due to gravity is taken as 9.8 m/s square. How this value is derived and computed and why this number is not any other number viz 6, 8, 12, 15 etc ?.

Basically, using math and physics, that's what a is found to be in the equation d = a[t^2]/2.

If other numbers are put in for gravity, they don't work.

What it comes down to is if something is dropped from 5m, it takes roughly 1 second;

if it is 20m, it takes roughly 2 seconds; if it is 90m, it takes roughly 3 seconds;

and so on ...

It gives a different value as object with less wind resistance are dropped.

For example, it is easily seen that a rock falls much faster than a feather.

This was found to not be true on an experiment done on the moon

since there is no air on the moon.
