Question
Hi,

Just wondering if you could help me with this question.

Metal weighs, 13.333g. If the volume of the liquid was 5.01mL before the metal was added, and 6.22mL after...Do I have to subract both numbers to get the final mL to solve for density?

THANKS!

Answer
D = M/V

D = 13.333g/(6.22 - 5.01)
D = 13.333g/(1.21mL)
D = about 11.019 g/mL

you have to subtract the previous volume from the final volume to find out how much volume the metal is, this gives you the true volume of the metal, and since the weight doesn't change, you get the above.
