Question
Soybean meal is 16% protein and corn meal is 9% protein. How many pounds of each should be mixed to get a 350-lb mixture that is 12% protein?

Answer
here is what i get

16x + 9y = 12
x + y = 350

Multiply bottom by -9

16x + 9y = 12
-9x - 9y = -3150

7x = -3138

x = -448.3

x + y = 350
-448.3 + y = 350
y = 798.3

so what i get is this

-448.3 lbs of soybeans
798.3 lbs of corn meal

that is what i got, but it could be wrong.
