Question
Hi, I'm attempting to work out this problem but I just can't seem to wrap my brain around it for some reason, though I know this is a simple problem. Could you help me? Please explain how you did whatever it is you are going to do to it.

If .03 percent of n is 3, what is 3 percent of n?

Thank you SO much
amanda

Answer
Inverse Operations and Substitution

.03% of n is 3
means
.03% * n = 3

since "n" is being multiplied by .03%, the opposite of that would be to divide both sides by .03%. Do this and you get

n = 3/(.03%)
.03% = .0003

so this gives you

n = 10000

now substitute that in for "n", into the next problem, which is

3% of n =
or
3%n =

3%(10000) =
.03(10000) = 300

-------------------------

Another way of doing it

n = 3/(.03%)
n = 3/(.03/100)
n = 3/(3/10000)
n = (3/1)/(3/10000)
n = (3/1)*(10000/3)
n = (30000/3)
n = 10000

3%n =
(3/100)n
(3/100) * 10000
(30000/100)
300

also keep in mind, x% is just another way of saying x/100.
