Question
QUESTION: Can you please help and explain how to calculate teh value of the discriminant of x^2+4x+4=0

ANSWER: ax^2 + bx + c = 0
d = b^2 - 4ac

1x^2 + 4x + 4 = 0

d = 4^2 - 4(1)(4)
d = 16 - 16
d = 0

This means that the graph hits at the x-axis only once.

QUESTION: May I ask why it hits only once?

Answer
lets do it this way

(ax + c)(bx + d) means that you have 2 connections
(ax + c)^2 means you have 1 connection
(ax + ci)(bx + di) means you have no connection

x^2 + 4x + 4 = (x + 2)^2, so you only have one connection since the only possible x value that will get you a 0 answer is -2.

(-2)^2 + 4(-2) + 4
4 - 8 + 4
-4 + 4
0

so you only have one x-intercept value.
