Advanced Math - Modulus function

Expert: Sherman D. - 6/9/2007

Question
Solve the equation: |3x + 2| = 1

Answer
|3x + 2| = 1

this can be rewritten as

±(3x + 2) = 1
3x + 2 = ±1
3x = -3 or -1
x = -1 or (-1/3)

just make sure that if it were

|3x + 2| = -1
that you can't have a |3x + 2| that will equal -1 because |3x + 2| is always the distance from 0 and distance is always postive.
