Using the Completing the Square method
3x^2 + 10x = 8
x^2 + (10/3)x = (8/3)
x^2 + (10/3)x + (25/9) = (49/9)
(x + (5/3))^2 = (49/9)
x + (5/3) = ±(7/3)
x = (-5/3) ± (7/3)
x = (-12/3) or (2/3)
x = -4 or (2/3)

x = (-b ± sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/(2a)
3x^2 + 10x = 8
3x^2 + 10x - 8 = 0
x = (-10 ± sqrt(10^2 - 4(3)(-8))/(2(3))
x = (-10 ± sqrt(100 + 96))/6
x = (-10 ± sqrt(196))/6
x = (-10 ± 14)/6
x = (-24/6) or (4/6)
x = -4 or (2/3)
