Solve b^4+2b^2-24=0.
b^4 + 2b^2 - 24 = 0
(b^2 + 6)(b^2 - 4)
b^2 + 6 = 0
b^2 = -6
b = ħisqrt(6)
b^2 - 4 = 0
b^2 = 4
b = sqrt(4)
b = ħ2
so
b = isqrt(6), -isqrt(6), 2, -2
You may already know this, but "i" = sqrt(-1), so sqrt(-6) is sqrt(-1 * 6), so this gives you i*sqrt(6).
