i have never played the game, so i can't really help you.

For an online game go to http://www.lovatts.com.au/sudoku/sudoku.htm

I just got through playing the online version, so my guess would be the minimum 4 blank spaces would be the answer. 3 would be the best, since it only has 6 combinations, but if you figure out that certain numbers can be excluded since there are some numbers already included.

I also figured out another good way to work the puzzle, Vertical, Horizontally, and within the cube. In otherwords, if you have 4 vertical or horizontal, but only 3 within the cube, i would work the 3 witin the cube first, since it is less amount of blanks.
