One Kung Pao chicken and two Big Macs provide 2620 calories.  Two Kung Pao chickens and one Big Mac provide  3740 calories.  Find the caloric content of each item.


Question # 2:

In a new development, 50 one- and two-bedroom condominiums were sold.  Each one-bedroom condo sold for $120 thousand and each  two-bedroom condo sold for $150 thousand.  If sales totaled  $7050 thousand, how much of each type of unit was sold?

x = Kung Pao Chicken
y = Big Macs

x + 2y = 2620
2x + y = 3740

Multiply the top by -2

-2x - 4y = -5240
2x + y = 3740
-3y = -1500
y = 500

2x + y = 3740
2x + 500 = 3740
2x = 3240
x = 1620

Kung Pao Chicken = 1620cal
Big Mac = 500cal

x + y = 50
x = 120 thousand
y = 150 thousand

x + y = 50
120x + 150y = 7050

Multiply the top by -120

-120x - 120y = -6000
120x + 150y = 7050

y = 35

x + y = 50
x + 35 = 50
x = 15

15 one bedroom condominiums were sold
35 two bedroom condominiums were sold
