Hi, Josh,

First step: look up the conversion factor, such as:

1 gallon = 3.8 liters (approximately, as I recall -- I did NOT look it up.)

Now write:

100000 gallons = 100000 (3.8 liters) =
3800000 liters.

Next  1000 liters = 1 kiloliter, and change that to say:

1 liter = 1/1000 kiloliter.

Now write:

3800000 liters = 3800000 (1/1000 kiloliters) =
3800 kiloliters.

In other words, at each step, figure out what ONE unit is equal to, and substitute that.

Expertise

I can answer questions in basic to advanced algebra (theory of equations, complex numbers), precalculus (functions, graphs, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions and identities), basic probability, and finite mathematics, including mathematical induction. I can also try (but not guarantee) to answer questions on Abstract Algebra -- groups, rings, etc. and Analysis -- sequences, limits, continuity. I won't understand specialized engineering or business jargon.

Experience

I taught at a two-year college for 25 years, including all subjects from algebra to third-semester calculus.
