Question
how do you make tan^2x/1+secx equal secx-1  ?

Answer
((tanx)^2)/(1 + secx) = secx - 1
((sinx/cosx)^2)/(1 + (1/cosx)) = secx - 1
((sinx/cosx)^2)/((cosx + 1)/cosx) = secx - 1
((sinx/cosx)^2)*(cosx/(cosx + 1)) = secx - 1
(cosx * sinx^2)/((cosx^2)(cosx + 1)) = secx - 1
(sinx^2)/(cosx(cosx + 1)) = secx - 1
(1 - cosx^2)/(cosx(cosx + 1)) = secx - 1
((1 + cosx)(1 - cosx))/(cosx(cosx + 1)) = secx - 1
(1 - cosx)/(cosx) = secx - 1
(1/cosx) - (cosx/cosx) = secx - 1
secx - 1 = secx - 1
