Question
Which describes the number and type of roots of the equation of x^3-4x^2+50x+7=0? Is it 1 positive, 2 negative...2 positive, 1 negative...3 negative..or 3 posivitve?

Answer
x^3 - 4x^2 + 50x + 7 = 0

Since i don't know how to factor all cubic equations, i went to www.quickmath.com, clicked on Solver under Equations, then i typed in x^3 - 4x^2 + 50x + 7 = 0 exactly like that, and it gave me

1 real
2 complex

x = -.138414
x = 2.06921 + 6.80376i
x = 2.06921 - 6.80376i

so if you are don't wanting 3 real values, then the answer is

1 positive, 2 negative, so the first answer is correct.

by the way, some cubic equations can have just one answer, if you have something like this, (ax + b)^3
