Question
assume that the graph of the exponential function f(x)=k • a^x passes through the 2 points. find the values of a and k.

(1, 1.5) (-1, 6)

Answer
f(x) = ka^x
y = ka^x

1.5 = ka^1
6 = ka^(-1)

1.5 = ka
6 = k(1/a)

1.5 = ka
6 = (k/a)

k = (1.5)/a
k = 6a

(1.5)/a = 6a
6a^2 = 1.5
a^2 = (1.5)/6
a^2 = (15/60)
a^2 = (1/4)
a = ±(1/2)

k = 6(±1/2)
k = ±3

a = (1/2) or (-1/2)
k = 3 or -3

In that order

a = (1/2), k = 3
a = (-1/2), k = -3
