Question
How do I change the dimensions of a barrel into cubic feet?

Answer
Hi, Ronnie1a,

1. Determine the number of cubic inches in a barrel.  Use the formula for the volume of a cylinder:

V = pi r^2 h,  where:

r is the radius of the base,
h is the height,

both in inches, I assume.

2. Since there are 12^3 = 1728 cubic inches in a cubic foot you divide by 1728.

IN THE FUTURE, when you send a question, include as much detail as possible.  You are more likely to get a sensible answer.

Expertise

I can answer questions in basic to advanced algebra (theory of equations, complex numbers), precalculus (functions, graphs, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions and identities), basic probability, and finite mathematics, including mathematical induction. I can also try (but not guarantee) to answer questions on Abstract Algebra -- groups, rings, etc. and Analysis -- sequences, limits, continuity. I won't understand specialized engineering or business jargon.

Experience

I taught at a two-year college for 25 years, including all subjects from algebra to third-semester calculus.
