Question
The question states:

Pat invested a total of $3000.  Part of the money yields 10% interest per year, and the rest yields 8% interest per year.  If the total yearly interest from this investment is $256, how much did Pat invest at 10% and how much at 8%?

Thanks!

Answer
sorry it took so long, i had to ask someone for help to see what i was doing wrong.

x + y = 3000
.10x + .08y = 256

x + y = 3000
10x + 8y = 25600

x + y = 3000
5x + 4y = 12800

x + y = 3000
y = -x + 3000

5x + 4(-x + 3000) = 12800
5x - 4x + 12000 = 12800
x = 800

y = -800 + 3000
y = 2200

ANS : $800 at 10% interest per year and %2200 at 8% interest per year.
