Question
Given: loga 5=2.32 and loga 9=3.17   (The a's are little and are the base of the logs)
Find: (a)loga (25/9)
     (b)loga (sqrt(45))

Answer
Using what is given.

a.)
log(a)(25/9) same as
log(a)25 - log(a)9
using this, you get
log(a)(5^2) - 3.17
becomes
2(log(a)5) - 3.17
or
2(2.32) - 3.17
4.64 - 3.17
ANS : 1.47

b.)
log(a)(sqrt(45))
same as saying
log(a)(45^(1/2))
same as saying
log(a)(5^(1/2) * 9^(1/2))
becomes
log(a)(5^(1/2)) + log(a)(9^(1/2))
(1/2)(log(a)5) + (1/2)(log(a)9)
using what was given, you get
(1/2)(2.32) + (1/2)(3.17)
1.16 + 1.585
ANS : 2.745
