Question
how do you simplify the square root of 90

Answer
Hi Tia,

When you simplify square roots, you want to look for perfect squares that are factors of the number.

In your example sqrt(90), look at the list of perfect squares:

1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81

Of these, only 9 will divide 90, so

sqrt(90) = sqrt(9 * 10) = sqrt(9) * sqrt(10) = 3 * sqrt(10)

I hope this helps you.
