Question
State whether the expression is a polynomial by writing yes or no. If it is, classify it as monomial, binomial, or trinomial.

1. -1/3x^3 2.7/y+z,3+7x-2x^2 3.a+b 4.-5/m+mn-2
State the degree of the polynomial. 9.13x^2-4 10.m^7+n^7 11.-3x^4y^3 12.7x^5+9x^3-1

Answer
If by these you mean

1.)
(-1/3)x^3
Yes, monomial

2.)
7/(y + z) = 7(y + z)^(-1)
No

3.)
3 + 7x - 2x^2 = -2x^2 + 7x + 3
Yes, trinomial

4.)
a + b same as x + y or y = -x
Yes, binomial

5.)
(-5/m) + mn - 2
No
But if you mean
-5/(m + mn - 2)
No.

I believe for it to be mono, bi, or tri, it shouldn't have variables in the denominators place, like 2 and 5.

you can have x/2 but not 2/x, because these give you negative powers.

By the way, i got 6 problems, since you didn't number
3 + 7x - 2x^2

---------------------------

Degree of the Polynomial is the largest degree of all its terms.

9.)
13x^2 - 4
ANS : 2

10.)
m^7 + n^7, degree is 7
ANS : 7

11.)
-3x^4y^3
ANS : 4

12.)
7x^5 + 9x^3 - 1
ANS : 5
