Advanced Math/rounding a number if not specified to round or not

Question
A school states that a student graduating with a 3.75 or better will get an award.  If my GPA is 3.7477, if it isn't stated that we can round, is it proper to round? I was under the assumption that since they carried it out their target number to two decimals (3.75) and not to four (3.7500) then we should round the 3.7477 up to a 3.75, but they disagree.  Can you clarify?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Vickie,

Mathematically, I agree with your interpretation, but ultimately its up to the policy of the school.  Maybe you can find out how this was dealt with in the past?

Also, what do they do with their grading policy?  If you get 89.465 for a class average, do you get a 90? or an 89?

It may state in the policy that rounding will not be done.
Basically you'll just have to check it out.
