Question
Hello!

My name is Assaf and I have a question about conversion:

I have to convert inches into: Yards, feet and inches. For example:

134 inches = 3yards 2feet 2inches (this is the example the teacher gave us).

What is the formula in order to break down the number of inches into this value (in yards feet and inches).

Please I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you in advance,
Assaf Lasry!

Answer
Hi, Assaf,
You want to convert many 'little pieces' (inches) into some 'big' pieces (yards), some 'medium' pieces (feet), and some leftover little pieces.

1. Start with big: 36 inches make a yard.  Divide 134 by 36, giving you 3 yards and 26 inches left over.

2. Next, medium. 12 inches make a foot.  Divide those 26 leftover inches by 12, giving you 2 feet and 2 inches left over.

Does that do it for you?
