Adventure Games/Help with my CD-rom games

Question
Hi Meg -- I hope you can help me or point me to someone who can.  Whenever we used to put in a CD-rom, the computer game would automatically run (start or install).  The last couple of times we have tried to do this with games we have already installed, it just makes a bunch of noise but the game does not begin.  We have resorted to going to the "Run" option and entering the D:\setup for each game.  This is frustrating, to say the least!  HELP!!!  Thanks!  Diane

Answer
This has happened to me before.  Click/double click on the following:

START
SETTINGS
CONTROL PANEL
SYSTEM
DEVICE MANAGER
CDROM
-choose your drive
SETTINGS tab
-make sure there's a check mark in the "AUTO INSERT NOTIFICATION" box
OK
restart your computer

This didn't work on one of my old PC's so I put a shortcut to "ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS" to my desktop.  It is much faster than the "RUN" option.

To do this, go into your CONTROL PANEL and right click on the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS icon.  Slide your cursor down to "SEND TO" and choose DESKTOP (CREATE A SHORTCUT).  Then whenever you need to do an install, put the CD into the drive and click/double click on the new icon.  Click INSTALL near the top/right of the window and OK when the command line comes up.

Hope this works,
Meg

Expertise

I can help with most Adventure games from small hints to complete walkthroughs. I`ve finished/beat all the popular games including Myst, Riven, and the Gabriel Knight series without help. New games are added to my list often. **Sorry, I am not a computer expert, so technical advice is rarely given. Please visit the manufacturer`s web-site for tech support.**
