Subject: King's Quest VII - AHH WEREFOREST and Rosella :(

Question
Hi Jan! I tried resaving in a different spot (I tried saving in the forest before Rosella starts walking in order to get intercepted by the werebear) but the same glitch still happened :( And you referred to a link at the end of an e-mail from your last answer-- are you referring to this link --> www.sierra.com/support/technical/updates/content.html ? If you are, where do I go, cause I just get redirected to here --> http://www.sierra.com/publish/sierra/en/home.html instead.

:( I'm pretty sure I downloaded the kq7pat.exe that I need though... To make sure I'm installing it correctly, do I just copy the file to the C:\SIERRA\KQ7 folder and then run it? And then run the game? Because if that's all I have to do, it doesn't fix the glitch for me :( Help me Jan! You're my only hope. *bawls*

Thanks!

Yes, this is the patch I've already downloaded-- at least, I've already downloaded the kq7pat patch. BTW, that link is old I think, since it just redirects you to the Sierra homepage. Save me Jan, what do I do? :(

Hi Jan,

I tried what you suggested, and used the defoliant on the werebear. But all that happens is that the werebear grabs Rosella over and over again and she screams "no". Basically, it's a looped animation (I think it's another bug/glitch) soooo I don't know what to do :( I've saved the game up to the point where Rosella leaves Malicia's house and puts on the cloak. I've been exiting the game without saving it after that point because I didn't want to lose the sling I had made with the silver pellet and stocking in case I needed it once the bug was fixed. Sooooo yes! What should I do? I'd really like to get out of Ooga Booga! It's creepy O_O Falderal's so much prettier *cries*

Hi Jan!

I've been playing King's Quest VII on Windows XP-- it took me lots of googling to figure out how to make it work. For a second, I was so scared that it wouldn't run on my computer! Anyways, I've got up to Chapter 4 and I'm experiencing that lockup when Rosella walks through the forest with the werebear. I use the sling, and the bear runs away, and I make it into Falderal but halfway across the grassy screen, right after the bear tears off Rosella's black cloak, she disappears and you can hear her being attacked by the werebear. I've tried using the patch (though I'm not sure what game version I have) but it hasn't done anything.

I've only run the kq7pat.exe file and done nothing else, so am I missing something? I really hope you can help me out, it seems you're really good at this sort of thing! :D

Hi Ingrid,
You need to get the Defoliant from Dr. Cadavers House. You have to use it VERY quickly when the monster comes. Here's an excellent walkthrough if you need to know how to get the defoliant. Good luck!

Ingrid,
Here's what Sierra has to say about your problem:

Problem: The game loops or locks up in Chapter 4 when Rosella is trying to get past the werebeast.
Solution: You need the King's Quest VII patch disk, KQ7PAT. The patch can be downloaded from www.sierra.com/support/technical/updates/content.html.

Is this the patch you've already downloaded?

Jan

Answer -
Ingrid,
I think I'm going to go KICK Sierra. You're not the only one to have this problem. I'm still not sure which patch you've downloaded. This link, at the end of this email, goes to a patch that I KNOW works for downloading. Hopefully (crosses her fingers) this one will fix the bug. If it doesn't. All I could think to do is go to that walkthrough page and make sure you have followed every step. One other thing you might want to try is to save the game in a different spot than Malicia's house. Sometimes a little thing like that will get rid of the clitch. In fact, I would try that first. Save in a different spot and then try running the game again. Please let me know if any of this works, because you're not the only one who's had this problem. Good luck!

Answer
*hands Ingrid a Kleenex for her tears*

It sounds like you've tried everything that can be done. It's possible you have a corrupt disk...possible, but I don't think so. Try this last thing:
Save the game in a different spot.
Shut the game down AND your computer.
Restart your computer and then try running the game.

If that doesn't work:
Save game in a completly different area again.
Shut down game and then computer.
  Restart computer and then game.

If that doesn't work, the cd might make a good frisbee!

I will have my fingers, toes and eyes crossed that this works Ingrid.  GOOD LUCK!

Jan
