Thanks for your previous answer, however, that is my problem, I have already tried that combination a million times, here is what happens. In the lava room, on the platform: Move the knob clockwise: The big gear above moves from right to left, nothing else happens.
Move the knob throught the center: The big gear moves back to the right, nothing else happens.
Turn knob counterclockwise: The knob will not turn counterclockwise.
This is why I am stuck. Any suggestions? I have been here for days and this is driving me crazy! All that seems to happen is the big gear moves back and forth, back and forth that seems to be all that happens.

  You may not have completed a step previously. All I can recommend is to go to this website, it has a very well written walk through. Scroll down until you see the Voltaic Age and make sure you have completed each step. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
