Expert: Jan Eskes Date: 7/1/2007 Subject: Problem installing Morrowind GOTY
Question QUESTION: This problem is very annoying.
I've just bought a brand new game - Morrowind game of the year edition and i can't even install it.
I put the disk in, it reads it fine, it runs the "auto start" function of the disk and brings up the new screen with the threee versions of morrowind (morrwind, tribunal and bloodmoon) saying that first i have to install morrowind, then tribunal, then bloodmoon.
I click to install Morrowind and it starts the installation progress (asks where to install, if i agree to user agreement etc...) but as soon as it starts copying files it stops at 2% and pops up this error message:
My computer exceeds the reccomended requirements and I have tried many things to fix this but all to no avail.
The account I'm installing it on is an administrator, i've tried it on my account and on my brothers acc (both administrators) and i've even made a new acc to install it on but that didn't work either and it ALWAYS does the exact same thing (stops at 2%).
I have upgraded to directx 8.1 (the one on the cd) still the same problem.
I have copied the entire contents of the cd to my hardrive then tried to install it from that and it does the same thing.
Please help me, i've read over the internet and found only 1 other person who had the exact same problem as i have but didn't find a valid solution for it (this is my last chance to play Morrowind... it's all up to you, please).
ANSWER: Jack,
Sometimes it's just a glitch at installation. Before you try to reinstall, you will need to totally uninstall ALL programs Morrowind has downloaded. Go to your Control Panel, click on Add Remove Programs, find the Morrowind and uninstall. Then check your C: drive to make sure ALL folders are deleted. Shut your computer down and restart. Turn of any Virus programs you may have running and try to reinstall Morrowind. It is VERY important that you make sure before you reinstall that you have removed all of the previous Morrowind programs.
Good luck, I'm sure you will enjoy the game, it's one of my favorites.

QUESTION: I appreciate your assistance but that isn't going to solve my problem simply because I have NOT even installed the program yet.
You said to uninstall it but (if you read my question) it hasn't been installed at all yet.
Anyway, i've have party done what you said (except uninstall as it hasn't even installed yet), ive deleted all the morrowind files off C drive (i have copied the contents of the disk to D drive if that effects anything)and also deleted a whole bunch of files freeing up some hardrive space, then i restarted, disabled the firewall and tried to install again but it did the EXACT same thing.
I really think im missing something, please help.
Answer Jack,
Even though you had not completed installation, trust me, files were installed on your computer. Make sure ALL Morrowind files are deleted off of every drive of your computer. You may also want to Defrag your computer if you haven't done that in a week or so. Shut your computer down, restart, disable the firewall AND any Anti Virus protection you may have. Make sure your disk is clean and then try to reinstall. If that doesn't work, either your computer is not up to the specs needed for the Morrowind game or you may have gotten a faulty disk.
