Question Dear Jan,
Ok, I did what you said, I deleted all prior installations and all that in Add/Remove. Then I reinstalled. This is what occurred:
When it first started (from Setup), the Sierra window opened, it showed the green Sierra mountain logo with "ding, ding" on the sparkles, as we old-time Sierra Online gamers are familiar with. Then it showed King's Quest 7, the mouse pointer became a white crown, and...then it stopped! A window opened bearing this admonishment: Windows must be restarted before playing King's Quest 7.
So I restarted, and bang, no-go. A complete freeze-up when I clicked on the Desktop Sierraw icon, Windows Title Not Found when I clicked the icons in the Sierra/KQ7 folder. Ugh!!
And yes, I have indeed searched the Sierra Planet forums, and have posted several ads--more like PLEAS--for aid. Someone gave me a patch that was supposedly the cure for all KQ7 "ailments", but it didn't do Thing One (and yes, I ensured that I saved/opened the patch in the Sierra/KQ7 folder). That was all the help I received, though, and the post was active for nearly two months. Blast! By the way, do you own this particular patch, or do you know where I can find it? I've managed to lose it over the past few months, God only knows how....
Perhaps there is something else I may try? A tech once told me to do all this stuff in SIERRA.INF, and RESOURCE.WIN, but I'm not really sure if I did that right...also something about changing the Command Line by right-clicking the Sierraw icon, going into Properties, and changing Sierraws to Sierraw? I don't know, I'm not a computer person, I'm not even sure if I did that right, and besides I've already deleted everything and have started "fresh".
Please help me, Jan! I've never been disappointed by an Allexperts specialist, and I KNOW you can fix this problem. You guys know everything! At least, you've known the answer to everything I'VE ever asked, which is quite a lot...
Thanks again, Jan. I eagerly await your answer. Rosella is giving me that poisonous glare again, she wants to be let out, she's sick of the orange vortex....
PS - Nobody from the Sierra website (not Sierra Planet) can offer any help...I guess Sierra technically doesn't exist anymore, at least not the part of Sierra that dealt in King's Quest games?
Thanks kindly,
Robert Fox
Answer Rob,
You make me NERVOUS by having such faith in me!! How will I live up to your expectations? ACCKK! Okay, I've calmed down now... *smile* I believe one of your biggest problems is WindowsME. The older games have trouble running on ME up through XP. Here is a link to step by step instructions that MAY help *crossing her fingers* If this doesn't help, don't shoot your computer, we can try running it with DosBox (link is included). I'm also including a link to the patch. Good luck Rob....your going to need it. LOL P.S. Make sure you once again uninstall all Sierra programs, then reboot your computer before following the instructions for installation.
