Question Hi Jan,
Ok, agreed...if you experience some strange sort of somnolent revelation, you just let me know. I'll be crossing my fingers on that one, haha.
Actually, there is something you could help me with. It's a fairly simple question, which is why I don't know the answer:
My computer is so messed up with all sorts of nasty things. I have to ditch this Windows ME anyway. I'm installing XP Office instead. This is the question: if I have spyware or nasty little things like that, will they be vanquished when I install XP or will they carry over? And do I need to format my hard drive first, or can I just install XP the normal way? Awhile ago I tried to install the regular Windows XP by putting the disk in the D: drive and restarting Windows, but it didn't work...I've had this computer for so long, I can't even remember what to do, really. Should I install XP from my current Windows?
And if not, how do I format my hard drive to ensure a clean start?
Thanks again, Jan. You're a jewel.
Kindly,
Rob
Answer Hi Rob!
No new epiphanies occurred while I was dreaming. It still bugs me that I couldn't solve your problem.
As for updating your ME to XP, here's what I would do:
1. Clean your hard drive. Remove any programs etc. you don't want any more.
2. Download this program, “Stopzilla” to remove not only Spyware, but Malware, and Adware. This software will continue to keep your computer protected after you load XP
3. Run Defrag
4. Shut down your computer and restart
5. Install the XP cd and follow the prompts.
After that you might try to install KQ7 again. Who knows, this may solve your problems for you. (crossing her fingers, eyes and toes).
