Question
I am interested in a career in Creative Advertising. I have a BJ in Advertising, however my adv. program did not split into "account" vs "creative" and therefore, I do not have a portfolio.  I am considering the Creative Circus as I am in Atlanta as well as the Art Direction program at SCAD's Atlanta location. The Creative Circus does not offer a masters, but I believe that their program is much more centered around the Advertising world, and is much more directly involved with today's Ad world.  SCAD does offer a masters, but my impression is that they are more focused on the fine arts and not as in tune with the modern ad world. What is the importance of a Masters when entering into the creative world of advertising? Or is all about the portfolio? Thank you!

I'm a SCAD professor, so keep that in mind as you listen to my response. My opinion:  it's your portfolio, not your initials on an academic degree, that will get you a job.

That being said, you'll find fine professors at both schools. I really can't say that one is better than the other. That's really up to you. Take a look. Talk to the prof's. And trust your gut.

If you have the drive, and the talent, you'll walk out of either school with a good book. The only advantage, really, of SCAD is that you'll be able to teach one day with an MFA.
