Advertising/Jingle Writing
Expert: Peter Gabany - 5/15/2008
QuestionI'm a talented composer who is looking for a home with an ad agency or jingle writing company. What is the best way that I can go about doing so. I'm from Michigan. I know that my skills are more than sufficient to contribute to make a company successful. My studio set up is fully capable to handle any task form long distance, if needed. Please Help!

I believe that you will find some resources here. My recommendation is to make some appointments and do some visits - only to scope out the industry and what possibilities might avail themselves to you.
Also, do you have a demo? If not make one. Find some sick ads (as in poor quality) and remake them in your style. Include the before and afters on your demo. Don't stray from the overall message but improve the overall quality of sound, add better music, put the message to better voice characterization or other. Use only 5 and 10 second segments of the old and demonstrate the new.
A 30 second commercial is about 80 words whereas a 60 is about 180 words. Rewrite the scripts and if you can't write - find a writer and last but not least find some agencies that will try out your stuff.
Radio stations will pay poorly. I do have more information about what you can do to start a jingle company but do as I've said so far and you will be on your way and if the opportunity arises we can move to the next step.
If you need some work to bolster your portfolio maybe we can send you some work - I don't wish to get your hopes up as we haven't heard your stuff - so make a demo and get it to us. email me direct to Peter@limelight.org.

Here's another cool site to see what Design Kitchen does – another sound/movie production company -

Can you create like them?
