Advertising/Avoiding pitfalls

Question
I currently are expanding into European distribution channel. My aim is to establish the branch in US but my knowledge about business culture is very limited. What steps do you propose to familiarise with major culture aspects so as to avoid future pitfalls when dealing with professionals in US.

Answer
My first contact would be with the local Chamber of Commerce. They should be able to help you with questions regarding the business culture in the area you are interested in expanding into. I would also see if there is a college in that area with a good business school and contact them for assistance.

Depending on what your product/service is you may find some articles on the internet or through a library. Some US communities also have World Affairs Councils who have members and others who can be most helpful.

SCORE is an organization of retired business people often through the Chamber of Commerce and they could provide you a wealth of expertise.

There are other organizations that may be available depending on the area you wish to explore. The chamber should be able to help you with additional resources.

Best of luck with this endeavor! Ann
