Advertising/Book question

QuestionMe again...
I'm in the process of putting my resume/portfolio book together. In the end,
it's going to be 8.5"x8.5", 6-10 pages containing my resume, spec work, and
additional qualifications with heavier stock dividing pages between sections.
I'm planning on dropping a few hundred dollars getting five or six printed up
and hopefully they'll look pretty good and show that I'm serious.
My question is this - If I'm planning on dropping these books off at various
agencies, how can I be sure that I get them back? Knowing how many books
agencies get everyday, I'd hate for one of mine to get lost in the shuffle.
What's the general protocol for agencies as far as holding/reviewing books go
and for people in my situation as well?
I'm considering dropping off a book, going back a few weeks later and
swapping it out with a cheaper, "dispoasable" version after giving them a
chance to see the real deal. Thoughts?

If you're going to send or drop off your book "unsolicited," I suggest you save yourself several hundred dollars and compile a CD version instead. It probably won't cost too much to design a tasteful folder to put the CD and resume in - then, the creative director can pop in your disc.
The other option, if you want to develop the print piece for the wow factor, is to include a return envelop, postage paid, in your leave-behind pack - along with a note saying you'll be glad to pick the portfolio up (and bring free coffee); or, for them to simply drop it in the mail.
Just remember, that your leave-behind itself (and not just what's in it) has to demonstrate your ability to generate attention.
