Answer
Jackie,

I have only worked for US advertising (ad) agencies, but I suspect that the process for exploring a career is similar in your part of the world.

First - read a few of the main books on the subject: "Ogilvy on Advertising," by David Ogilvy; and, any other popular titles that have been translated into your native language.

After that, you'll need to put together a portfolio of your own ideas. This is how potential employers judge your ability to come up with ad ideas. Your portfolio, or "book" as it's called in the business, is your main means of securing work. Your book should have at least 10 examples of different ads that you wrote and/or designed.

Next, you'll want to contact a few ad agencies near you. Tell them that you are trying to get started and if the Creative Director would give you a "courtesy" interview. You would not really be applying for the job. Rather, you're asking the Creative Director to give you feedback on your ideas.

That's my suggestion on the right way to get started. Best of luck to you!
