Question
Hi, I studied Information Systems and Management in Uni and only after I started working I found that I need a more interesting job. So now I am working in a small advertising agency as an Account Executive. However, I would like to go further in this industry but worrying I may not have a good enough profile for my future career. Do you have any suggestions about what I could study to equip myself better in this industry? Thanks for your help very much.

Answer
Kylie,

This is a difficult question to answer without some better information. Advertising is a huge field. There is, as you are now familiar with, account management, design, creative direction, copywriting, tv production, directing, sound production, media, research, sales promotionm, direct response marketing, the public relations and public affairs component of the business. Pitching for new business, trade show and event coordination.

Which are you most interested in? Where are you located in relation to furthering your education - Chicago, West coast, Texas? Where are you willing to travel to further your education? Or do you wish to do it the harder way and go through the agency system?

What is your main interest? Making $$$? Going back to school? Working in which department of advertising?

Give me some asnwers and my answers will have more meaning.

Thanks ,

Pete
