Question
Hi, I have tried the High Intensity Interval Training ( HIIT ) for 2 weeks, only to find that I put on 2kg, which I never lost. Why is this so? Should I just go back to normal cardio training?

Answer
If you haven't changed your eating habits, it's probably not fat weight you put on, so don't be concerned about it. The higher intensity training likely requires more effort than what you are used to doing.  Muscles work harder, and it's probably a 2 kg water weight gain which is common and normal.  Muscle is composed of 75% water, so it needs to retain water for the work demand you're placing on it.

Should you go back to normal cardio training?  Not necessarily.  It's normal for weight to fluctuate a bit - it's not supposed to be always the same.  But you're getting a lot of good benefits with higher intensity training.  So stay with it if it feels good to you.
