Question
QUESTION: With regard to the practical exam for the AFAA certification:  are we allowed to use a mat for our demonstrations or any other equipment?  does every exercise and strength move need to be done standing up, or are we allowed to get on the floor?

Thanks so much for your time and information!!

ANSWER: Hi Carolyn.

are we allowed to use a mat for our demonstrations or any other equipment?
Yes. You will be able to use your mat for your demonstration.  Usually you do not need to use any other equipment.  Your Certification Specialist will tell you if you do.

does every exercise and strength move need to be done standing up, or are we allowed to get on the floor?
It depends upon what exercise you will be asked to demonstrate.  The past few weeks I have been examining the certification specialist allowed the students to choose the exercise they wanted to demonstrate. So it depends upon what the certification specialist asks or allows you to do.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: This follow up question is from Carolyn's mother, Patty, who is having to take the certification test again.
In the practical test, question #26 states: Lordosis is associated with an anterior tilt of the pelvis and may be a result of all of the following except:
A. tight hip flexors
B. weak back extensors
C. weak abdominals
D. All of the above     The answer sheet shows "D" as the correct answer, but page 108 of the textbook states the answer so that "B" should be the correct one.  Is this indeed a mistake on the test? Since I will need all the help I can get doing this test, I wanted to write someone and get clarification on what I should put as the answer..
Thank you!!

Answer
Just off the top of my head, I would thing that B and C are the correct answers.  I would definitely call AFAA as soon as possible to find out and alert them of this inconsistency so that you (and possibly thousands of others) get proper credit on the written test if you answer correctly. Did she not do well on the practical or the written?  If it was the practical, what did she score low on?
