Question
Dear Brandon,

Is their any scientific basis giving concern that running on tarmac roads can lead to any long term damage of joints?

With Regards

Answer
James,

I haven't been able to find any good articles to back concern for running on tarmac surfaces. With running there is always force generated by a persons body that is absorbed by the surface. If the surface does not absorb the the forces then the joints will have to absorb and dissipate those forces. I have sent this question to the question pool to see if any of the other experts have more thoughts or experience with this topic. Sorry I could not be of more help.
