Aerobics/Can I get more nimble?

Question
Michele
I am 50,in decent shape as I run a couple times a week and workout with weights.
I am overweight and carry a sizeable belly, although I think its hereditary as I am not a big eater.
Question:
Is it posible to do an exercise that will make me a bit more nimble and lighter on my feet?
I realise being lighter would help, and I am working on that.
My wife wants to take up dancing with me,and I have two left feet.
Also,I want to start coaching my gran children in indoor soccer and hockey this Fall, and I know you have to have strong nut also nimble legs for those sports.
Maybe I am too old,but if there is a will there is a way right?

Answer
Hi Bud,

You're never to old to improve your quality of life. Please consult your medical doctor before starting or changing your exercise program. Make sure that your program includes (1) Cardiorespiratory Endurance: Try cross training. IE: walking, swimming - easier on the joints than running, (2) Resistance Training: very low weights and higher repetitions, (3) Flexibility: basic static (holding) stretches. Check out www.acsm.org for specific exercise guidelines for Older Adults.
Hire a certified/degree personal trainer who has intensive education in (1) Older adults), (2)General Fitness, (3) Sports Conditioning) and (4) exercise Science. Don't' forget to ask for Professional references.
Find the right dance teacher, then you can dance with a right and a left foot.

Take care,
