Question
Hello Kim. I am just starting my weightloss journey. Over the past years i have had two children and my fitness levels have declined dramatically and my weight has piled on. I have recently joined a gym where i have access to fitness classes. I plan to use the centre as much as possible but wonder if it will be to much for me. I do not want to do any damage. Also im 104kg but used to be very fit so will my body remember my previous state of fitness.

Thank you veyr much.

Answer
Hi Heidi-
I commend you for joining the gym and beginning your fitness journey once again.  I strongly advise you to use the center and if you take fitness classes, listen to your body and only do as much as you feel you can handle.  Most instructors show modifications for exercises if possible, so you will probably want to start with the low impact version first and then work your way to higher intensities.

As for your body remembering your previous state of fitness, there is such a thing called muscle memory where your body can remember things it used to do (like ride a bike for instance), but your fitness level will need to be regained especially since you've had children.  If you have photos of yourself before children, that can be a great motivator to remind you that it is possible for you to look like that again.

I hope this helps, keep going to the gym.  Thanks for the question!
