Aerobics/WEIGHT LOSS VS MUSCLE GAIN

Question
I know that I am overweight.  I have been working out now for six weeks (I know that's not Long).  Although I haven't lost any weight, I have loss inches.  Is there a way of determining how much muscle weight I gained?  In other words, if I hadn't built up muscle, how much weight would I have lost (comparatively speaking).  I am a 61 year old female who, until the pass few years, never had a weight problem.  I don't want to get discouraged now.

Answer
Hi Joyce,
Congratulations on starting to workout!!
There is really no way to see how much weight you would have lost/how much muscle you gained.
You can do a bodyfat analysis-your weight might stay the same but your bodyfat will go down in addition to losing inches.
The most important things to look for when exercising is to see how your clothes are fitting-and your measurements.
If you are losing inches-your workout/diet regime is effective.
Thank You, Anymore questions-feel free to ask,
