QUESTION: Hi,
I have a question about speeding up your metabolism. I always thought that using the treadmill would speed up your metabolism. However I read that it doesn't. I do know that lifting weights will but I also thought the treadmill would too. If it doesn't why do they use it so much when exercising to lose weight. I know the treadmill isn't that great for calories burned. So there has to be a reason, am I right or wrong. I really need your expert opinion here. I use my treadmill at least 30 minutes a day. I am an older person and have lost 35 pounds that way and eating low carb.  Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Pat,
The treadmill and any other cardio exercise that you do will help to burn fat--the resistance training that you do will help to tone your muscles-you need to do both to lose weight and tone up.

QUESTION: Hi Bonnie,
I don't want to be a pest, but I have one more question to ask.
I am losing 2 pounds a week average. Do you think by adding more time on the treadmill or using weights, could I possibly lose another pound per week? I have lost 35 pounds but have 55 to go.   Thanks  Any help you can give me would surely be appreciated.

Hi Pat,
You might be able to lose more weight by adding time on the treadmill or using weights-but if you have been consistently losing 2 lbs a week-you will eventually hit a plateau.
Make sure that you are doing both cardio and resistance training in your workouts.
