Question
Am Masters/veteran athlete after getting all clear after illness.Back doing reasonably fast walking in park up to 70 mins daily.Intend reentering competition when fit enough .Am familiar with gyms, but have not been there for some time.Do not want to spend hrs. in gym.30/40 mins.What do you advise?Weights/treadmill/cross trainer/machines?

Glad you're getting back into being active again.  It is difficult to give you advise from the information you provided.  Weights, treadmill, cross trainer, weight machines, and cardio machines are all beneficial.  Your goals and preferences determines the kind of exercise/workouts you do.  You can alternate between all of the modes you mentioned.  Without knowing your objectives, likes, dislikes, etc., I can't provide suggestions.
Glad you're motivated though!
