Question
Hi Kim
I've heard a lot about high intensity training lately, where you work at high intensity for 1 minute followed by 1 minute of lower intensity for approximately 10 cycles. Is there a heart rate goal for the high intensity portion of the training?

Hi Jan-
There could be a heart rate goal if you or a trainer wanted to define one for yourself.  With a heart rate goal, you would work at a higher intensity level in an attempt to reach a higher heart rate, perhaps 80% max.  However, I HIGHLY recommend a doctor's approval if you have any health conditions or risk factors at all AND a trainer's specific recommendation for what your heart rate goal should be.  I offer phone coaching if you are interested in that.
