Question
Hello, I am within a healthy weight range but want to get in shape for the summer and I have recently started jogging. I used to be a runner, but that was about 3 years ago and now I want to get back into it but gradually. I have been running on the treadmill for 20 minutes straight at 7 mph. Is this enough to achieve all the benefits of cardio or should I be doing more?
Thanks and have a great day

Answer
Hi,
Glad that you're working out again.  There is no exact "number" that defines all the benefits of cardio exercise.  In general, you're doing about the minimum amount of cardio as defined by ACSM guidelines, which is good.  If you extend your running time, you'll achieve greater caloric burn, greater cardiovascular health benefits, and increase your endurance level.  If you increase the speed, you'll achieve greater aerobic capacity and better cardiovascular health benefits, too.  If you're happy with your fitness level, you can keep doing what you're doing to maintain it.

Hope this helps!
