Aerobics/Running to lose weight

Question
QUESTION: Hi there, thank you for answering my question.

For the last week or two, I've started running. I'm not a runner at all but I'm trying to be more fit. I kind of got into a few bad habits with my health and I'm trying to get out of them. I run almost every day, at least 4 times a week, and I usually run about 2 miles, maybe a little more on good days. The problem I'm having is that I'm getting discouraged because I'm gaining weight and that's the opposite of what I want. I know that everything takes time when you do it right but I guess my questions are first, is this normal and okay to be happening? And second, after the initial weight gain, will I lose weight? And if I will lose weight, how long until that starts happening?

Thank you for helping me out. I appreciate anything you have to say. Thanks again.

ANSWER: Hi Jaycie,
Thank you for your question.
What is your nutrition like?
Do you do any other exercise besides running?
What are your goals?
How old are you?
How much do you weigh now?
If you could please answer these questions for me-I will help you out as much as I can.
Thank You,
Bonnie

QUESTION: I eat a pretty healthy diet. I do have a cookie or two every other day or something like that but I do eat very healthy other than that.

I lift weights and I do the stationary bike in addition to running.

My goals are to lose weight and to feel better and have the energy that I need to do what I want to do.

I'm 17 right now and I weighed 170 before I started running but now I'm at 173.

Answer
Hi Jaycie,
Thank you for your follow up answers.
You should not worry about what the scale says as much as your should see how your clothes are fitting-muscle takes up less room than fat-so you can weigh more more-but your clothes are looser.
You should get your bodyfat percentage checked by a trainer near you-your bf % is more important than your weight.
Nutrition is very important-more protein and carbohydrates-less fat and sodium.
Drink lots of water every day to stay hydrated.
Workout 3-4 times per week with weights.
Any more questions-feel free to ask.
Thank You,
Bonnie
